The one page on BW Modernisation
The sheet we hand out on the stand. Carry your BW forward, or rebuild it in Datasphere, decided on evidence before any build.
Decide the route from what your BW actually does, not from a single quoted number.
What you are seeing: The printed A5 sheet for BW Modernisation, as handed out at UKISUG Connect 2026.
Convert BW, or rebuild in Datasphere?
BW 7.5 mainstream maintenance ends in 2027 and Business Data Cloud is on the agenda. Most BW systems get one route, quoted as a single number. We settle the route first, from what your system actually does, and build after.
Two routes. We find what is right for you.
Carry forward. Keep what works. Lift to BW private cloud edition or convert to BW/4HANA, and publish the models worth keeping as data products into Business Data Cloud. Lift, convert, publish to BDC.
Rebuild. Take only what earns its place. Start in Datasphere, carry the logic worth keeping across, and leave the rest deliberately behind. Rebuild in Datasphere, retire unused.
Built on SAP BW/4HANA, SAP Datasphere and Databricks.
Does this sound like your BW?
- BW 7.5, with mainstream maintenance ending in 2027.
- A conversion quoted as one number, with no view of what is worth keeping.
- Custom logic in transformations that nobody wants to touch.
- Flows still scheduled, and no record of who reads the output.
How it goes
- Discovery. Objects, flows and queries counted, with usage and run history behind each one. Your system described in evidence, not memory.
- Route decision. Carry forward, rebuild, or a split, each sized against your system. One recommended, with the reasoning written down.
- Move. Models converted or rebuilt. The logic worth keeping carried across, the rest left behind.
- Parallel run. Old and new producing the same numbers over a period, reconciled before anything is switched off.
- Handover. The old system retired. A runbook and training for the team that now owns the new one.
Why Notium
The business runs on your BW reports. That is what makes the move hard to start, and it is what we protect first.
- Nothing breaks. Old and new run side by side until the numbers agree, report by report. The business keeps what it relies on throughout the move.
- Your logic, kept. Fifteen years on BW means we read custom transformations and flows before deciding what moves. Nothing worth keeping is lost on the way.
- Ready for AI. What you keep is published as governed data products, with Business Data Cloud enablement, so SAP Business AI and Notium AI Suite can work on it next.
A UK manufacturer: BW scanned, a third of the objects found unread, the rest rebuilt in Datasphere and reconciled before switch off.
Where to start
Start with a BW estate scan. Object counts, flows and query usage read from your own system, returned as what is read, what is dormant, and what each route would carry across.
